Prior to launching the entrepreneurship incubator 50More Ventures I was a business and international affairs news producer for Bloomberg TV and the United Nations Radio in New York. I also led strategic communications for a tech company that raised $60 million in the US. I continue to advise tech startups, enterprise software trade bodies, and am a mentor and judge at MassChallengeUK.
In October of 2016 I was appointed by the European Commission to the High Level Group to review the impact of Horizon 2020, the £80 Billion Framework Programme to fund Research & Innovation in the EU.
I produced the UN official daily news bulletins and weekly features (with an audience reach of 30 million + a week through partner stations including BBC World/Radio France International – RFI), covering the United Nations Headquarters in NYC, and all its specialised agencies including UNICEF, UNDP, and WIPO.
I managed international teams of news producers, engineers, UX/UI designers, and software developers to deliver broadcast news content and the daily website updates of news organizations including Bloomberg TV and at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, and at UN’s regional offices in Geneva and The Hague.
For our daily broadcast I interviewed high-level government officials, including former Brazilian Ministers of Science and Technology, the Permanent Representatives of Brazil to the United Nations, Ambassador Ronaldo Sardenberg, Ambassador Gelson Fonseca, and Ambassador Luiz Felipe de Seixas Correa, and advisers to the UN Secretary General Kofi Annan, on the drafting and ratification of treaties and international policy frameworks negotiated at the World Intellectual Property Organization, the WTO, and the World Health Organization.
For UN Radio in New York I covered and interviewed government officials for stories on cyber-security treaties, the role of INTERPOL, and the ministerial level conferences at the World Intellectual Property Organization, on film and copyright, for the daily broadcast and the weekly features.
We produced social media content in multiple languages, and managed large-scale international press relations campaigns (launching in 20+ cities simultaneously) while working with producers and editors at CNN International, SkyNews, The Guardian, BBC, Globo TV, and other major market news outlets in Latin America, London, and New York.
I placed stories daily for the UN and its agencies on Radio France International, The Guardian, BBC News, and Bloomberg TV, FT FDi, and other news organizations in the US.
I am a speaker and moderator for seminars and conferences on the topics of IoT for health and fitness. I can also speak about the development of startup ecosystems in Brazil, US and Europe, innovation, public policies that favour entrepreneurship and value creation in Europe and the US, scaling-up internationally, women in tech, and trade for development.
I speak fluently English, French, Spanish, and Portuguese – I conduct interviews, make presentations, and hold international press conferences on a range of academic topics in all four languages. I managed assistant producers, interns, stringers, sound engineers, and oversaw the weekly distribution of features and the daily news bulletin to hundreds of client stations worldwide and news websites in emerging economies and Europe, reaching an estimated audience of 30 million a week, in the EMEA region and Latin America.
We operated in complex political environments, delivering coverage of the UN Security Council ministerial-level meetings, global gatherings such as the World Summit on the Information Society and the World Summit on Sustainable Development, and hundreds of conferences a year hosted under the auspices of the UN in New York City, and Geneva.
For two American universities, where I was appointed Director of Communications and Public Relations, I have implemented marketing communications’ strategies to promote research in nanotechnology, IoT, wearables, cybersecurity, and biomedical engineering.
For UN Radio I covered the World Trade Organization and the World Intellectual Property Organization, the TRIPS agreement, Doha negotiations, and the enterprise software industry. I managed strategic communications, media relations, and international press conferences for the UN in London, New York, The Hague, and Geneva, working on a daily basis with senior news editors and TV producers at CNN, WSJ, The Economist, The FT, and The Guardian to provide critical, time-sensitive information, to ensure news coverage of UN economic reports on innovation and technology.
I report and work on issues of digital inclusion since 1999, first at Bloomberg TV, then as Latin America Marketing Manager for govWorks.com, the e-gov startup that raised $60 million USD in 2000, in New York City, from investors Henry Kravis, of Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co., who invested alongside the Mayfield Fund and other Silicon Valley firms.
